Hormesis is the phenomenon and estimation that molecules in the low concentration have different behavior in the cell compared to that of the high concentration. For example, Fe and Cu are dangerous substances creating antioxidant chemicals in the cell, but a low dose of those metals are mandatory for our body.
The threshold model, prevailing in toxicology, would be replaced by the hormesis theory if the mechanism of hormesis was proven molecularly.
Pre- and postconditioning were also explained by this theory.

I guess that it is the same concept of protein droplet or fifth folding and signaling system...
